Jan Vogler, Dresdner Festspielorchester, Ivor Bolton

Schumann Cello Concert & Symphony No. 2

The Dresden Festival Orchestra was founded by Jan Vogler, cellist and artitistic director of the Dresden Music Festival, in 2012 in the spirit of the »Orchestra di Dresda«, the legendary court orchestra of August the Strong. The orchestra unites about 50 musicians from the finest early-music ensembles in Europe and comes togheter once a year at the Dresden Music Festival. Under the musical direction of Ivor Bolton the Orchestra and Jan Vogler as soloist have recorded Robert Schumann's cello concerto and his second symphony at Dresden's Lukaskirche. Both are works that he composed in Dresden and thus create a nice relation to the hometown of the orchestra. Jan Vogler has provided his Stradivarius cello with gut strings. The program was already performed at the final concert of the 2016 festival season and was critically acclaimed.

Born in 1810 in Zwickau, Robert Schumann is among the most celebrated composers of the romantic epoch. The film delves musically into the sound of Schumann's lifetime.
